POUND, VA – William Irvin Short, 70, entered into eternity Thursday March 5, 2026.

Irvin was born August 5, 1955 in Pound VA to the late Harry and Mildred (Peak) Short. He was a longtime member and counselor in the Bishopric of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Big Stone Gap, VA He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Irvin was constantly helping others in any way that he could. No matter how big or how small the task was, he was always willing to help.

He retired from the Wise County School system after 30 plus years of service as a custodian.  When he wasn't working, he loved going fishing,

watching the NY Mets, NY Jets or the NY Knicks on television, helping coach different little league or senior league baseball in our area and working his garden. Ivrin was an avid woodworker…making tables, bed frames and just about anything else pertaining to furniture and wood.

Irvin was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mildred (Peak) Short; and his brothers, Micah Short and Fitzhugh Short.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years Joan Short-Pound, VA; his children, Chista Short, William Short Jr, (Lelani) Eric Short (Debbie)-

all of Coeburn, VA and Jessica Kendrick (Boomer)- Melva, VA; grandchildren, Jordan (Lucas), Zachary, Stephanie, Leah, Zander, Bradley, Hunter, Carter, Hadley, Kim, Kelsey, Kallie, David Paul, Layla. Levi, Danielle, Brody and Cacen; great-grandchildren, Caraline, Dawson,

Elijah, Theodore, Xavier and Samuel; sisters, Carolyn Short -Knoxville, TN and June Mullins (Jim) -Alabama; a brother, Lewis Short (Mary)-

Pound, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his church family and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Monday March 9, 2026, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Big Stone Gap, VA with

Bishop Barry Ison officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until time of services. Burial will follow in the Short Family Cemetery on Sawmill Hollow Road in Pound, VA where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
