William Oscar Grant

WISE, VA – William Oscar “Bill” Grant passed away MondayOctober 5, 2026 at his residence after an extended illness. His family was at his side.

Bill was born December 19, 1948 in Hurricane, WV to the late Chalmer and Thelma (Call) Grant. He was of the Christian faith. Bill worked for 21 years in the public works department for the town of Wise. He had also worked for 11 years for Big Valley Seeding. After retiring Bill liked to set on the porch and talk to family and friends and wave at people as they went by. When he was able Bill liked to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed old television shows and old country music. Bill enjoyed watching sports and was a fan of the Tennessee Vols, the Pittsburg Steelers and the Chicago Cubs.

In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his sisters Janet Rose, Betty McNeil and Phyllis Kinder and his brothers Darrell Grant and Johnny Grant.

Survivors include his wife Pat Grant -Wise, VA; his stepson Tristan Bentley Mullins-Wise, VA; his stepdaughters Danielle Satallard and husband Alex and their children Wyatt and Eli-Pound, VA and Michelle Bentley-Pound, VA; special nephew Gary Grant; special niece Vickie Sparks; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday October 7, 2026, in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of services.

Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens-Big Stone Gap, VA where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Angel Care Hospice in Lebanon, VA, the Cancer Center on Wilcox Hall at Holston Valley Hospital, the Southwest Virginia Regional Cancer Center-Norton, VA and Dr. Donovan Mabe and the staff at Norton Community Physicians.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Southwest Virginia Regional Cancer Center in Norton, VA.
