William Everette Cox

DRYDEN, VA- William E. "Bill" Cox. 79, passed away Wednesday September 23, 2026 at Holston Rehab and Healthcare Center in Kingsport., TN after a long and courageous battle with many health issues Bill served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years. rising to the rank of Corporal (E-4). He bravely served in Vietnam was awarded many medals and letters of appreciation including the and Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal Bill was of the Christian faith and attended the Deep Springs Baptist Church on US 58 in Lee County. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bill believed in working to provide for his family. Although he worked all of the time, either at work or around his house or farm, he cherished his time with his family. Bill loved landscaping, cutting trees, moving rocks and building rock fences. Anything to improve his property. He was tree and plant expert, he knew the name of each tree and plant and the type of conditions they thrived in. Bill loved his Lord. his family and his country.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Avis Charles Cox and Stella Jewel (Madden) Cox: his sister Sheila Chumlet: and his brother Chuck Cox.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years Virginia Cox-Dryden, VA; his daughter Tammy Sue Deleo and husband James-Lackawaxen, PA; his sons William Cox, JR "Billy'and wife Donna-Pound, Va and Charles Vincent Cox-Pound, VA; grandchildren Amber Boggs, Cody Cox, Mackenzie Fleming, Daniel Deleo, Liam Deleo, Tesla Cox, Hannah Cox, Brittany Cox, Vincent Cox, Lucas Cox and Mollie Cox; great-grandchildren Draven Boggs, Willow Boggs, Rose Boggs and Aaron Fleming; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 pm Saturday September 26, 2026 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Phillips officiating. The family will receive friend from 4:00 pm until time of services.

Burial will take place at 2:00 pm Monday September 28, 2026 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery-Mountain Home , TN where the Marine Corps Honor Guard team will perform military rights. Baker Funeral Home-Pound, VA is serving the family of William "Bill" Cox.
