POUND, VA – Talmadge Ray "Smitty" Smith, 81, entered peacefully into eternity Saturday July 18, 2026 from American House in Kingsport, TN His devoted wife Dianna was by his side.

Talmadge was born September 19, 1944 in Clintwood, VA to the late Troy and Opal (Childress) Smith. He was of the Baptist faith Smitty worked for over 35 years in the tool and die division Ford Motor Company. He built a career defined by precision, dedication and building things that kept the world running. He rose to the position of Superintendent of the division and also earned his college degree. Taking great pride in his craft, Smitty was known for an impeccable eye for detail and the ability to turn raw metal into works of industrial art. He treated every blueprint with care and always ensured the job was done right the first time.

After retiring Smitty had a passion for hunting, fishing and working in his garden, he was well known for his tomatoes. He was a talented gunsmith, and loved to use his guns in shooting matches where he was known for his accuracy. After traveling so frequently for work, Smitty enjoyed being a homebody during his retirement. He enjoyed the simple things in life and quiet time at home.

In addition to his parents Smitty was preceded in death by an infant brother Bobby Smith; and a sister Louella Wagner.

Survivors include his loving wife of 41years Dianna (Moore) Smith-Pound, VA; his daughter Nicole Lee Cook-Livonia, MI; three grandchildren Makenzie Cook, Christopher Cook and Audrey Cook; sisters Nell Hillman-Clintwood, VA and Carrie Szuba-Michigan; special friends Randy Tim Mullins, Randy Fleming, Fred Kiser. Kim Smith and Hyder Kiser; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones.

As per Smitty's wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 12 noon Saturday July 25, 2026 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joe Glen Sluss officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until time of services.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association for research.
