POUND, VA – Sammy Mullins, 76, entered into eternity Tuesday August 11, 2026, from Norton Community Hospital. His loving family was by his side.
Sammy was of the Christiant faith and a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was a lifelong son of the mountains and a proud, hardworking surface miner. He had around 40 years of experience.
Sammy was a man of quiet strength and a steady hand during hard times, is loved ones could always depend on him. He was devoted to his wife and children. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, or just sitting on the porch. He absolutely loved watching his grandkids participating in baseball, football or riding horses. Sammy was a dedicated Pound Wildcat fan, he never missed a game and was loud and proud. At home he enjoyed watching the Investigative Discovery Channel with all the criminal shows and westerns, especially Bonanza, he was a Bonanza trivia expert. He was a man of simple pleasure and deep roots.
Sammy was preceded in death by his son Sammy Mullins, Jr.; his parents Earl and Clohia (Short) Mullins; a sister Beatrice Tompkins; sister-in law Faye Mullins; and brothers-in-law Rad Tompkins and Ronnie Hensley.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Ann (Robinson) Mullins; his son Arron Mullins and wife Merri-Pound, VA; grandchildren Corey Mullins (Hailey), Nickel Mullins (Sarah) and Penny Mullins; great grandchildren Emory Mullins, Sam Mullins, Hazel Mullins, Ivey Wren Mullins and Baby Girl Mullins on the way; Sisters Cassalee Hensley-Pound, VA and Eva Powers and husband Walter-Pound, VA; brothers Franklin Mullins-Pound, VA, Vergis Earl “Huck” Mullins (Annie)-Fort Worth TX and Billy Gene Mullins (Kathy)-Pound, VA; special aunt Zella “Sis” Mullins-Pound; special niece Amy Mullins (‘Rabbit”); special friends Sherri and Tom Holston; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Friday August 14, 2026, in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services.
Military rites will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday August 15, 2026, by local VFW Posts in the funeral home parking lot. Burial will follow at the John Hop Mullins Cemetery-Pound, VA where Arron Mullins, Cory Mullins, Nickel Mullins, Ronnie Mullins, Rabbit Mullins and Tom Holston will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:00.
