GATE CITY, VA – Roger Lee "Rod" Davis, 70, went home to be with the Lord Monday, July 6, 2026, He was surrounded by his loving

family.

For nearly half a century Roger hauled coal from the Appalachian mines to power homes, businesses, and dreams. Each load was more than just the cargo, it was tribute to his tireless work ethic and commitment to support his family and community. Like the coal he hauled, Roger's presence was rugged and indispensable. He is survived by his family who will forever cherish the sturdy reliable man whose love and stories burned as brightly as any fire the coal he carried could ever burn.

For decades he navigated both coal packed highways and life bumps. He leaves behind a fleet of loyal friends, a collection of trucker stories and a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and the hum of diesel engines. His earthly journey may have ended but his wheels and memories keep turning

in his family's hearts.

Roger was born to James and Maxie Davis on February 1, 1956, and made life exciting from the very beginning. Case in point his actual birth date. He insisted it was the first while everyone else says it was February 2. That was just the beginning of his many shenanigans.

Roger was a man of many talents and has done more things in his lifetime than most people could ever imagine. He has done everything from managing horse stables, coal mining, logging, saw mill working, and his true love, although he would never admit it, coal truck driving. He was always a hard working man leaving most days before dawn and not returning until dark. Roger always made sure his family was provided for. His greatest joy was being a Papaw.

The family would like to thank the 5th Floor ICU nurses and doctors at Holston Valley Hospital for their care and kindness.

Roger is preceded in death by his loving parents Maxie and James (Boog) Davis and two sibling who died at birth.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Rhonda Davis; three children, Brittany (Randy) Carter, Jon Davis, and Kara Daivs. four grandchildren, Londyn Carter, Gavin, Ella and Corbett Davis. He is also survived by seven sisters, Mabel (Estel) Mullins, Ruth (Denis) O'Quinn, Mona Hill, Ellen (Bernard) Mullins, Keeta (Scott) Stanley, Kathy (Steve) Hale, and Colleen Stanley. three brothers, John (Sherri) Davis, Jack (Donna) Davis, and Gary (Joanna) Davis; one half brother Paul (Marie) Fleming; special aunt Peg Wigginton; special nieces, Leanna (Punky) Davis and Becky Turner, and life long best friend Darrell (Jen) Elkins. As well as a host of nieces and nephews and more friends than we can count.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday July 11, 2026 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jackie Frazier and Pastor Randy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of services.

Burial will follow in the Turner/Davis Cemetery on Sierra Road in Duffield, VA Pallbearers will be Brandon Baker, Maria Trucking drivers.

Honorary pallbearers Randy Davis Larry Tomlinson, Larry Clore, A.C. Blevins, Terry Hillman, Estel Mullins, Bernard Mullins, Darrell Elkins, Dennis O'Quinn, Steve Hale, Dennis Boggs and Jeremey Farmer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Baker Funeral Home toward funeral expenses.
