POUND, VA – Rena Ilene McCarthy Mullins, 72, passed SundayMay 24, 2026 from the Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, TN.

She graduated as Valedictorian of Pound High School in 1972.

She was employed with Pound Hardware and Furniture Company for more than 20 years and later retired from Red Onion State Prison.

Rena enjoyed flower gardening, homemaking and reading.

Rena was preceded in death by her son, Jamie Mullins, her father,David Bennie McCarthy; a sister Carolyn Reeves and her brother Joe McCarthy.

Left to cherish her memory are her mother, Julia Mae McCarthy andher sister Debra Hobbs both of Pound, VA. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Private graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 Wednesday May27, 2026. Rena will be laid to rest in the Thurston Hubbard Cemetery-Pound, VA

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Rena's caregivers; Shirley Burke, Linda Francis and the Ballad Hospice staff.
