Philip Dent Piklenton

POUND, VA – Philip Dent Pilkenton, 86, passed away peacefully Monday October 12, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving family. Dent leaves behind a legacy carved in brick, block and stone that will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.

Dent was born March 3, 1940 to the late Edgar John Henry Pilkenton and Maude Jane (Boggs) Pilkenton. He discovered his life calling at an early age. With calloused hands, a sharp eye and patience, he became a master brick, block and stone mason. For nearly 70 years he shaped brick, block and stone into enduring works of art. Building the foundations of homes, churches and community landmarks that will stand for generations. To him every stone had a story, and he knew just how to place it. He was a remarkable carpenter, building and repairing many homes, roofs and decks.

Beyond his craft, he was a man of steadfast character, humility and strength much like the materials he worked with every day. He taught his family the value of hard work, patience and doing a job right the first time. He usually worked harder than all the guys around him while being double or triple their age. Dent helped and mentored all the people that worked for him. He worked harder at helping them than he did for himself. A true selfless servant, he was a jewel for sure. His heavenly crown will have so many jewels that it will be too heavy for him to pick up. Yes even for him. He was a born again Christian and a member of the Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. His favorite song was “Time has made a change in me”.

In addition to his parents Dent was preceded in death by his sisters Claudette Grayson and Georgia Phillips; and his brothers Glen Pilkenton, Gary Pilkenton, J C Pilkenton, M D Pilkenton, Baxtor Pilkenton, Bruce Pilkenton and Douglas Pilkenton.

Survivors include his Daughter Katrina Powers and husband Tim-Pound, VA; his son Phillip Pilkenton and wife Nancy-Wise, VA; his grandchildren Tim Pilkenton (Kayla); Stephen Powers (Kasi), Leigh Annn Gibson (Mitch) and Raden Pilkenton;; great-grandchildren Isiah Bentley, Caleb Gibson, Paisley Gibson, Greyson Pilkenton, Jackson Holding and Jake Carpenter; a sister Angela Wise-Abingdon, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his lifelong friend Kendall Boggs; special friends Willa Mae Shelby and Greg “Judge Barlow” Pilkenton ; his church family; and a host of friends and loved ones.

As per Dent’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be celebration of life service at a later date.
