In Loving Memory of Nicole Chrystalyn Powers

Nicole Chrystalyn Powers, age 51, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 5, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Nicole was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend whose life touched the hearts of many. She had a deep love for reading and books, a passion that led her to a career as a librarian. Her love for literature was an important part of who she was, and she found great joy in sharing that passion with others.

Above all, Nicole cherished her family, especially her daughter, Emma Joy Powers, who was the light of her life. She will be remembered for her strength, love, and the memories she leaves behind.

Nicole is survived by her beloved daughter, Emma Joy Powers; her stepchildren, Jason Powers and wife Sarah, and Kristi Blackburn and husband Austin; her step-grandchildren; her parents, Edna and Henry Wayne Mickles; her brothers, Herschel Mickles and wife Kathy, and Joe Mickles and wife Susanne; her sister, Jessica Robinson and husband Brian; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Willie and Alice Baker Blevins, and her paternal grandparents, Hershel and Thelma Louise Mickles.

Nicole’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Tuesday November 10, 2026, in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Carter Officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of services. 

Burial will follow in the Crouse Cemetery on Beech street in Pound, VA where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
