Melissa Ann Long, 60, of Wise, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2026 at Norton Community Hospital.

Melissa was a devoted wife and mother who loved with her whole heart. She was the kind of person whose love ran deep, especially for her family. She was the best wife and mother anyone could ask for, and the love she gave to those closest to her was a reflection of the special person she was.

Melissa enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, spending time with her beloved cats, and, most of all, being with her daughter. The simple things she loved were a part of what made her who she was, and the memories shared with her will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved her.

Melissa leaves behind her loving husband, Derek; her daughter, Misty (Brandon); her granddaughter, April; her sister, Regina; her brothers, Dana, Terry (Gina), Randy (Gwen), and Robin (Cynthia); and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Georgia and Vencil; her sister, Brenda; her niece, Debra; and her nephew, Josh; and her cherished dog Charlie.

Melissa was truly one of a kind. There will never be another person who can take her place, and the space she leaves behind can never be filled. 

Her love, her presence, and the memories made with her will live on in the hearts of her family forever. Though words can never fully express how much she meant to those who loved her, one thing will always remain true: she was deeply loved, she will be dearly missed, and she will never be forgotten.

Cremation services are being handled by Baker Funeral Home.
