John B.
Cantrell
d. Jun 19, 2025
Pound, VA
POUND, VA – John Broce Cantrell, 60, entered eternity on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at his residence.
John was of the Christian faith. A 1985 graduate of Pound High School, he was a proud left-handed pitcher for the Wildcats baseball team. From a young age, John embodied a strong work ethic. He began working as a butcher at just 15 years old at the Pound Market. Over the years, he held many roles: coal miner, carpenter, and business owner of Pound Farm Supply for over twenty years. Truly a jack of all trades, John's versatility and work ethic were unmatched.
Of all his accomplishments, John always said his greatest was his children and grandchildren. He found joy in the simple things—camping, fishing, spending time at the lake, boating, and watching or attending NASCAR races. Above all, he cherished time with his family and friends. Known for his big heart, John would give you the shirt off his back and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Nona Gay (Stanley) Cantrell, and his sister, Nancy Hutchison.
He is survived by his children, Haley Adkins and husband Andrew of Johnson City, TN, and Brandon Cantrell of Fairfax, VA; his beloved grandchildren, Daxton and Beckham Adkins; his father, Guy Cantrell of Pound, VA; sisters, Gladys Osborne and husband Stephen of Pound, VA, and Gayetta Cox and husband Steve of Sharps Chapel, TN; brothers, Shelton "Shag" Cantrell and wife Kay, and Bryan Cantrell and wife Kathy, all of Pound, VA; the mother of his children, Margaret Cantrell of Pound, VA; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel, with Elder Willie Cantrell and Reverend Randy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the time of service.
Burial will follow in the Arvil Mullins Cemetery in Pound, VA. Serving as pallbearers will be Nicholas Osborne, Christopher Cantrell, Devon Cantrell, Deano Roberts, Stephen Osborne, and Jerry Hutchison.
