Obituary

POUND, VA – Joey Allen Cantrell, 67, passed away Friday April 24, 2026 at Norton Community Hospital, after an extended illness. His loving family was at his bedside.

Joey was of the Christian faith. He was born January 1, 1959 in Norton, VA to his parents Ralph "Whitey" and Jeanette (Davis)

Cantrell. Joey was a 1977 graduate of Pound High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. Later he loved playing  croquet and volleyball. And in his latter years he enjoyed croquet and golf. He loved sports his whole life. If he wasn't participating he was watching in person or on television. Joey was an avid fan of

University of  Kentucky basketball, Notre Dame football, CincinattiReds baseball, Minnesota Viking football and Dale Earnhardt in Nascar racing. Joey also loved music and camping. He lived for the weekends and spending time with his wife and his friends.

Joey was 1981graduate of Lincoln Memorial University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He immediately went to work for the Virginia DMLR where he worked for 45 years until his retirement in September of 2025.

Joey was preceded in death by his father Ralph "Whitey" Cantrell;and his brother Ralph Timothy Cantrell.

Survivors include his mother Jeanette (Davis) Cantrell-Pound, VA; his loving wife of 45 years Robin (Vetter) Cantrell of the home; his

nephew Tim Cantrell and wife Jessica-Pikeville, KY; his great-nephews Gavin Cantrell and Jack Cantrell; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday April 29, 2026 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Willie Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of services.

Entombment services will follow at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Elder Stacy Potter officiating. Jonathan Branham, Shane Mullins, Danny Stallard, Daniel Morse, Robert Phillips and John Sturgill  will serve as pallbearers.

Baker Funeral Home-Pound, VA is serving the family of Joey Allen Cantrell.
