POUND, VA – Eletta Cantrell, 86, peacefully entered eternity Monday June 30, 2025 from Heritage Hall in Wise, VA.

Eletta was a born again Christian. She was a member of Ferbie Chapel Church and attended Hamilton Chapel Church. She was member of the Pound VFW Post 9600 Ladies Auxillary where she worked tirelessly to support the group. Eletta was a retired LPN having worked for St. Mary Hospital for over 20 years. Eletta participated in quilting at Pound Town Hall and at Hamilton Chapel Church. She enjoyed gardening and canning.

Eletta was a fantastic cook and loved to see people enjoy her many wonderful meals and desserts. She was always quick to help her family and friends when the opportunity arose, that was just her nature. She was tender hearted and wore her heart on her sleeve. Eletta was also an avid reader and loved bluegrass music.

Eletta was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Virginia (Robinson) Meade; her first husband Harold Junior Steele; her second husband Burlin Cantrell; and her son Johnny Steele.

Survivors include her granddaughter (Leanna) Reymond Steele-Frederick MD; her brothers William Meade and wife Helen-Abingdon, VA, Tollie Jasper Meade and wife Jeannie-Spencer, VA, and Demos Meade-Pound, VA; sisters Kay Perry and husband Darius-Farnham, VA and Renee Melissa Bell and husband Mike-Pound, VA; daughter-in-law Denise Steele-Wise, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Karen Bailey and Teresa Caudill; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday July 3, 2025, in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Strouth and Reverend Randy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until time of services.

Burial and graveside committal services will follow in the Meade Cemetery on Ferbie Road, Pound, VA where Matthew Meade, Greg Meade, Patrick Meade, Spencer Salyers, Mike Bell and Donnie Paul Dotson, Sr. will serve as pallbearers.
