POUND, VA- Donald Clay "Donnie" Elkins, 89, entered peacefully into eternity Saturday December 20, 2025 from his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Donnie was born December 10, 1936 in Pound, VA to his parents Ralph and Ruble (Slemp) Elkins.Donnie was a born again Christian and loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he was a deacon and active member at Ferbie Chapel Church since 1977. Donnie was a retired employee of Westmoreland Coal Company with over 36 years of service and a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. He worked underground then at the prep plant. After retiring from Westmoreland Donnie drove a school bus for 5 years for the Wise County School system then worked for 17 years for Wise County at the North Fork convenience center. In addition to working full time he loved working around the house, especially yardwork. Weed eating was his favorite chore. Donnie loved his family deeply, his kids, his grandkids and his great-grandkids. He loved being a Papaw and watching all the kids grow up. He loved his church family
as well.
In addition to his parents Donnie was preceded in death by his son Reverend Tim Elkins; his sisters Sue Cantrell, Linda Gregory and Joyce Powers; a brother Jimmy Elkins; 3 infant brothers and his beloved dog and companion Bubba J.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years Barbara (Dotson) Elkins-Pound, VA; his daughter Donna Elkins Coxe and husband David-Pound, VA; his son Mike Elkins and wife Karen-Pound, VA; his daughter-in-law Jill Humphreys; his grandchildren Amanda Dawn Daugherty and husband Timothy, Crystal Rene Kirby and husband Lee, Lora Beth Belcher and husband Josh and Andy Elkins and wife Whitney, Stephen Coxe and wife Lanee, Brianna Webb, Victoria Coxe and Tucker Coxe; his great-grandchildren Levi Kirby, Kaylee Kirby, Drew Elkins, Caden Elkins, Charleston Elkins, Etta Elkins, Jackson Belcher, Will Belcher, Stella Belcher, John Luke Belcher, Jeb Belcher, Briley Coxe, Ryan Coxe, Leanne Coxe, Clayton Webb and Taylor Webb; sisters Janice Collins-Pound, VA and Helen Hobbs-Pound, VA;; brother Freddy Elkins and wife Mona-Wise, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his church family; and a host of friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday December 27, 2025 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Strouth, Reverend Randy Carter and Reverend Darrell Milgrim officiating and singing by family members. The UMWA will perform a miner honor service prior to funeral services. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until time of services.
Burial will follow in the Elkins-Dotson Cemetery on Discovery Road in the Bold Camp section of Pound, VA where grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
