David Joshua Vanover

POUND, VA- David Joshua Vanover, 45, passed away Sunday August 23. 2026 at Norton Community Hospital due to ongoing health issues. His loving family was at his side.

David leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to his country, his family and his fellow soldiers. He valued integrity and discipline. David honorably served in both the United States Marine Corp and the Untied States Army. He served during the Afghanistan Campaign and the Iraq Campaign. His career was marked by dedication and integrity,

David loved his Lord, his family and his country. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Big Stone Gap. David enjoyed being outdoors especially fishing and gardening. He was a diehard Atlanta Braves fan and an avid reader. He was also a history buff and enjoyed oil paintıng, But his greatest love was for his family, especially his mother Joan and his daughter Danielle.

David was preceded in death by his father Gregory Lynn Vanover; his step- father Irvin Short; his paternal grandparents H.G. and Barbara Vanover; his maternal grandparents Delbert and Draxie Short and cousin Tracy Short Hylton.

Survivors include his daughter Danielle Vanover; his mother Joan Short: his brother Matthew Vanover (Brandi); his sister Miriam Vanover; nephews David Paul Vanover, Brody Vanover, Levi Vanover and Cecan Vanover; niece Layla Woodworth; aunts and uncle Danny and Jackie Short, Carl and Madonna Kennedy, Carl and Greta Vanover, Tina and James Rose, Johnny Vanover and Carmelita Sellers; several cousins; a host of friends and loved ones; and his beloved dog Daisy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday August 29, 2026 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Barry Ison officiating. The Army National Guard Honors Team and Local VF W Posts will conduct military rites immediately after. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of services.

Burial will follow in the John Hop Mullins Cemetery on Earl Mullins Road where Matthew Vanover, David Paul Vanover, Brody Vanover, Levi Vanover, Brad Short and Tim Mullins will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Baker Funeral Home to go toward funeral expenses.
