WISE, VA – David Charles Rutherford, Jr., 53, of Wise, VA passed away at Norton Community Hospital on December 23, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His loving mother was at his side.

David was of the Baptist faith and belonged to Beckner's Chapel Church-Wise, VA. He wanted to be a warrior for God and loved going to church and being with his brothers and sisters of the church. David graduated from Pound High School in 1990 and loved hunting, fishing and primitive camping.

David Junior as the family called him was preceded in death by his father David Simon Rutherford; his paternal grandparents Ballard and Lou Etta Long Rutherford; his maternal grandparents Sid and Daisy

Johnson Mullins; 5 uncles, E.J., Everet, Herbert, and Leon Rutherford and George Harry Mullins; 2 aunts Bertha Gaye Rutherford Turner and Artemas Rutherford.

Survivors include his mother Juanita Carol "Sissy" Mullins Rutherford-Wise, VA ; one brother Bryan Scott Rutherford and wife Joyce Lee Meade Rutherford-Wise, VA; and a host of loving family and friends; a special cousin David Allen Sherfey; and his best friend and dog Zena.

Family and friends are asked to meet at Baker Funeral Home-Pound, VA by 12:30 pm Sunday December 28, 2025 for visitation until a 1:00 pm prayer by Pastor Jerry Collier.

There will then be a procession to Dewey Cemetery where Pastor Jerry Collier will give the farewell prayer at the gravesite and David will be laid to rest beside his father. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
